Why do people keep recommending Dreamwidth as a Tumblr alternative, when Dreamwidth and Tumblr are so different?
To be flat-out honest, it's because Dreamwidth has so many things that Tumblr users say they want, even if it's also lacking a lot of features that Tumblr users have come to love:
Dreamwidth has incredibly lax content hosting rules. I'd say that it's slightly more restrictive than AO3, but only just slightly, and only because AO3's abuse team has been so overwhelmed and over-worked. Otherwise, the hosting policies are pretty similar. You want to go nuts, show nuts? You can do that on Dreamwidth.
In fact, Dreamwidth is so serious about "go nuts, show nuts", it gave up the ability to accept transactions through PayPal in 2009 to protect our ability to do that. (It's also one reason why Dreamwidth doesn't have an app: Dreamwidth will never be beholden to Apple's content rules this way.)
Dreamwidth cares about your privacy; it doesn't sell your data, and barely collects any to begin with. As far as I'm aware, it only collects what it needs to run the site. The owners have also spoken out on behalf of internet privacy many times, and are prepared to put their money where their mouth is.
No ads. Ever. Period. They mean it. Dreamwidth is entirely user funded.
Posts viewed in reverse chronological order; no algorithm, opt-in or otherwise. No algorithm at all. No "For You" or "Suggested" page. You still entirely create and curate your own experience.
The ability to make posts that only your "mutuals", or even only a specific subset of your "mutuals", can see. Want to make a post that's only open to Bonnie, Clyde, Butch, and Cassidy? You can do that! Want to make a post that's only open to Bonnie and Butch, but Clyde and Cassidy can't see shit? You can do that, too!
The owners have forsworn NFTs and the blockchain in general. Not as big a worry now as it was even a year ago, but still good to know!
We are explicitly the customers of Dreamwidth. Dreamwidth wants to make us happy, so any changes they make (and they do make changes) are made with us in mind, and after exploring as many possibilities as they can.
Dreamwidth is very transparent about their policies and changes. If you want to know why they're making a specific change, or keeping or getting rid of a feature, they will tell you. You don't have to find out ten months later that they're locked into a contract to keep it for a year (cough cough Tumblr Live cough cough).
So those are some things that Tumblr users would probably love about Dreamwidth.
Another reason Dreamwidth keeps being recommended is that a significant portion of the Age 30+ crowd spent a lot of earlier fandom years on a site known as LiveJournal. Dreamwidth may not be much like Tumblr, but it it started out as a code fork of LiveJournal, so it will be very familiar to anyone who spent any time there. Except better.
Finally, we're recommending Dreamwidth because some of the things that Tumblr users want are just... not going to happen on the web as it is now. Image hosting is the big one for this. Maybe in the future, the price of data will be much cheaper, and Dreamwidth will be able to host as much as we all want for a pittance that a fraction of the userbase will happily pay for everyone, but right now that's just not possible.
Everywhere you want to go that hosts a lot of images will either be running lots of ads, selling your data, or both.
Dreamwidth knows how much it costs to host your data, and has budgeted for that. They are hosting within their means, within our means.
Dreamwidth is the closest thing we may ever get to AO3 as a social media platform. One of the co-owners is from, and still in, fandom; she knows our values, because they are also her values. It may as well be the Blogsite Of Our Own.

Will not:
hate art

if it crosses my boundaries
Terms and Service! (this is a long one)
The client may ask for progress updates every 2-4 days, if not longer, should the commissionee not be in contact.
The art may take longer than the estimated time the artist gives. Should that be an issue or concern, the client must tell the artist.
In commissioning the artist, the client acknowledges that the artist is a student and that this is not the artist’s full time job, and the client should not expect the artist to be able to treat it as such.
IMAGE RIGHTS
The client may not, in any way shape or form, use the art in a commission product for NFTs, no matter how much they offer to pay the artist. Should NFTs be made of the art without consent, the client gives full consent for the artist to take legal action against them.
The client may make minor edits to the completed commission (e.g. cropping, adding text/borders, changing brightness/contrast/hue/saturation…
The client may use/reupload the commission for personal/non-commercial use, but only if proper credit to the artist and a linkback to any of the artist’s social media is provided.
If the commission includes characters that do not belong the client, additional credit to the owner(s)/creator(s) of said characters must be provided when using/reuploading for personal/non-commercial use.
The client may not use the commission for any commercial use unless discussed with the artist beforehand.
^ Should the client use the art for commercial use, provided the artist’s consent, the artist will receive an agreed-upon percentage of the sales profits.
The client MUST credit the artist for any usage of the art on any platform.
The client MUST ask the artist if they want to use their art as a reference, and proceed to credit each time the reference is used. REVISION POLICIES Once the coloring stage begins, the only major revisions permitted are details that the artist may have missed and was specified by the client in the order while the commission was still in the sketching/lineart stage (e.g. a missing tattoo that’s essential to the character’s design).
If the client is unsatisfied with the commission, the artist is willing to discuss and make minor edits as stated prior (e.g. adjusting colors). However, the artist will not redraw the piece and expects full payment, as the client should have specified in the sketch stage changes they wanted to be made.
The client may not hire another artist to adjust the image without the commissionee’s consent.
The artist is willing to edit the image post commission for the commissioner, but may charge a small fee depending on what is being asked of them. Upon commissioning the artist, the client automatically agrees to the terms of service provided, as it is assumed they have read them.
-
…and that’s about it? Just don’t expect me to be obligated to draw something and we'll figure something out. Not to mention that depending on how much commissions i’m getting and how busy i am, the art will take atleast a few days to a week!
If you got references, provide them! It’ll help alot. You can also ask for progress updates, just don’t mind me accidentally not seeing the message bc this is tumblr and I don’t get notifs for some reason.
as of rn, im accepting payment through ko-fi and paypal
But ye! That’s about it, thanks for seeing this yall. If you want to see more examples, simply look at the tags below in my account!

Some Thoughts on the Reddit Blackout
Like many new arrivals on Tumblr these days, I used to be a Redditor until recent developments encouraged me to take my business elsewhere, and I have been following the development of the story as thoroughly as I can without actually giving Reddit any more traffic. With the most recent development of the Reddit admin corps taking on a suite of strategies lifted straight from the depression-era railroad baron playbook, I figured the time has come to talk a little about the wider implications of this whole story.
The Tech sector is, to the best of my understanding, in a vulnerable place right now. After the Web 2.0 gold rush and years of consolidation and growth from the biggest actors, your Alphabets, Twitters, Metas, and so on, many of the larger sites and services are reaching the largest size they can expect to grow to. How, for instance, could Facebook or Twitter grow much more now that everyone and their mother is on Facebook and Twitter? Prior to the Musk buyout, Twitter seemingly settled on upping engagement, making sure people were on Twitter longer and invested more energy and emotion in the platform, usually by making damn sure the discourse zapping through that hellhole was as polarizing and hostile as possible. Meta, meanwhile, has been making bank on user data as advertisers, AI folks, and any number of other actors salivate over getting their hands on the self-updating contact and interest registry that is Facebook.
With the rise of what we apparently have decided to call AI, data is now more valuable than ever. I consider this to be yet another Tech Hype Bubble on the level of NFTs or Metaverses, but, like with the two above, I can imagine it's hard to explain that when you are a Tech CEO and your shareholders ask you "Hey, how do you plan on earning us money off of this AI/NFT/Metaverse thing?" This is not to say CEO Steve Huffman isn't handling this whole thing with the grace of a three-legged hippo, but merely to suggest that his less-than-laudable decisions and actions in this mess don't arise from his character alone but also is a result of wider systemic issues.
One of these issues is the complicated role user data plays in modern websites and -services. Since its inception as a publicly accessible space, the question of how to monetize the Internet has been a tricky one for site and service owners. Selling ad space on your website or service has long been the go-to, but this in itself presents its own issues, having to curate content that is considered ad-friendly, malicious or careless actors making using said service or website less attractive for customers, and finally how to convince your advertisers that they get what they pay for in the first place, ie. "how do I know people even look at our ads?" All of this is before you even stop to consider how ads massively favor large, established actors.
It's no small wonder, then, that several startups in the era of internet mass adoption chose to forgo ads, or at least massively deprioritize them and/or relaunch them as "promoted posts," in an attempt to escape the stigma around ads. Meta/Facebook is probably the biggest fish in this particular pond, but we also see other services such as Twitter and Reddit follow the same pattern.
What makes this work is that the data these platforms collect from their users isn't all that valuable on a person-to-person basis, knowing that so-and-so is 32 years old, lives in a traditionally conservative part of the city, goes to Starbucks a lot, and listens to Radiohead isn't particularly useful information for anyone but a dedicated but lazy stalker; When viewed as an aggregate, however, large collections of data on a large population becomes quite valuable. This is especially true if you're working with, say, targeted ads or political campaigns. Look no further than the Cambridge Analytica data scandal for an example.
Now, all this is to illustrate the strange position the user occupies in Web 2.0. We tend to think of ourselves as the customer of Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, and so on, but it isn't the case. After all, we don't pay for these services, and if we do it's to buy freedom from ads or other minor service modifications. It is more correct to say that we make up the product itself. This is true in two respects, first, an active social community is vital for social media to not be entirely pointless, and second, we generate the data that the platform holder seeks to monetize. This hybrid product/participant role doesn't map cleanly to traditional understandings of "worker," but I argue it is a closer fit than "customer."
All of this is to say that it is immensely gratifying to see the Reddit Blackout taking the shape of a strike rather than the more typical boycott model we've seen in the internet-based protests of yesteryear. Much of this, I think, we can thank the participating Reddit moderators. While the regular platform user can be *argued* to be a worker, the moderator inarguably is one, and the fact that they aren't paid for their efforts is more a credit to the prosocial nature of humans than to the corporate acumen of the platform holders. Either way, moderating a subreddit is work, if the subreddit is large, it's quite a lot of work, and moderators keeping malicious actors, scammers, and hatemongers out of everyone's hair is a must for any decently sized social space to not be an objectively terrible experience. So, if you were to, for example, withhold your labor (moderating for free) which you as a worker can do, it would be plain irresponsible to leave the place open for said bad apples to ruin everyone's bunches, thus the shutdowns.
I don't think it's a controversial take to claim that the Reddit admins also view this more as a strike than a boycott, given their use of scabs, intimidation, and other strikebreaking tactics in an attempt to break the thing up. This is nothing new, and the fact that Reddit admins are willing to stoop to these scumbag tactics tells us that their bluster about the shutdown not affecting their bottom line is nothing more than shareholder-placating hot air.
As this entire screed has perhaps demonstrated, I believe the Reddit Blackout is important. My stay at Tumblr so far has been excellent and will probably continue past this strike no matter what outcome it has, but for others in my situation, or perhaps entirely alien to the Reddit biome, I ask you to consider: If we do not stop this level of consumer and user-unfriendly bullshit Reddit have been pulling on the API change, where will it pop up next? Who's to say the next bright idea in corpo-hell isn't "Hey boss, how about we charge these nerd losers a dollar per reblog? And maybe a fiver for a Golden Reblog (TM)?"
This is perhaps getting into grandstanding, but I believe we are way past due for a renegotiation of what it means to be a platform holder and -user on this hot mess of an internet. If we as users do not take an active, strong stance on the matter, the Steve Huffmans, Elon Musks, and Mark Zuckerbergs of the world will decide without us. One does not have to be a fortune teller to see that the digital world this would create would not have our best interests in mind any more than the current one does.
So, in closing, I wish to extend my wholehearted support to the participating Moderators of Reddit and everyone who has decided to take their business elsewhere for the duration of the shutdown. Even without getting into the nitty-gritty of the API situation, this is a fight worth having, and may we through it make a world that's just a little bit less shitty.
Become Ungovernable
Become Unprofitable
Stay that way.

I've revamped my Bird Guy distribution by adding them to my shop instead!
Previously you would have to tip me any amount and I'd draw and send you a guy via Ko-fi message. Now, there's a handful of them in my shop that you can buy and claim for yourself! There's only one of each available, so once they're gone they're never coming back. And whoever buys them gets to be the sole owner (no affiliation with NFTs of course)! Naturally the image you buy is not watermarked.
Of course this is all in good fun, and not meant to be taken too seriously as me Selling Art or anything. I'm quite awful at drawing actually, but people seem to like the goofy way I draw things on my phone.
Anyway, you can find their shop category here. If they all sell out I'll make more. Please consider checking them out, since I really need the money right now.
And maybe continue to browse my shop for other things?

You may absolutely NOT use these in a commercial manner ( earning money via using MY works , such as through NFT's and ads ) .
When requesting , please be as detailed as you possibly can so that I will be able to accurately complete your Request ( each STANDARD LAYOUT Moodboard will have a maximum of nine images with ( the middle ) one designated as being a GIF of the character / ship / animal / etc. ASK for an ALTERNATE LAYOUT ) ! With that in mind , please be considerate of epileptic / photosensitive users and do NOT request rapidly flashing images / images with jarringly bright colors . Furthermore , refrain from requesting images that may be triggering to other users ( i.e. , blood , knives , etc. ) . Being disrespectful to me and / or others will result in an automatic Request decline .
As you may already be able to tell , the Request does NOT have to be Genshin - themed ! I will do characters from other media , animals , specific aesthetics , comfort boards , etc. On the other hand , I will absolutely not take inappropriate / hateful Requests ( i.e. , sexual and racist themes ) .

The social influence of an NFT
Teo machado
NFT, digital art, art history, and the connections between these topics and your social life. These days, it's imperative to keep a clean record and stay current with the trends in this fast-paced, dynamic environment. Not only can you accomplish this by buying NFT, you can do it in many other ways.
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a digital asset or piece of content that is typically stored on a blockchain and gives its owner ownership. Too, provenance over it. Some advantages and things to think about when buying an NFT are as follows.
Ownership and Authenticity. NFTs have an excellent blockchain-based security system. This creates a unique digital piece out of your artwork. NFTs are frequently linked to digital art. Under no circumstances can you copy an NFT.
Valuation potential, some NFTs can appreciate in value over time, especially if the creator becomes more famous or if there's a high demand for their work. By purchasing NFTs, you can gain access to specific communities, events or content with exclusive and special advantages. For example, having an NFT may grant you access to an exclusive online community or a limited-edition piece of art.
Scarcity and rarity: many NFTs are planned to be scarce, which can give them added value. If there are only a limited number available, this can make them more desirable.
According to research on modern definitions of art, art is defined as putting your thoughts, feelings, and anything else you would like to communicate in a way that other people can see and either understand or not, the message that is behind it.Digital art is art that exists throughout the virtual world and is expressed in a variety of ways online. Cyberart is art produced with the help of computers.
According to Invaluable “With the knowledge we have nowadays art has existed since the Paleolithic, or Old Stone Age. The art of this period depends on natural pigments and stone carvings.”
In the age we live in, we have various types of art and countless ways to create it. We have more materials, creativity, and knowledge to produce a wide range of art. Art encompasses many factors.
So, buying NFt can give you benefits and transform your social and normal life. It also gives you the honor of being the owner of a unique work that cannot be copied.

Hey, Alex! Quick question, I saw your neopets post, and was wondering if the neopet site, as of today, is nice to play with.
Like, I´ve always thought of creating a new account (had one wayy back then), and all, but hearing about the fucking NFT shit, and how buggy half of the features where kinda discoraged me.
But seeing your post made me wonder if the new owners are improving the site experience, or the site wasn´t half as buggy as people said it was.
Yes!! I'd argue the site has been more nice to play with lately than it has been in the last couple of years since flash went under.
Funny thing about the NFT shit; TNT had nothing to do with it. TL;DR one of the og creators got obsessed with crypto shit, pissed his pants when no one wanted to do NFT shit, dipped, and now Neopets is independent and mostly owned by one of the other og creators who ISN'T a weird cryptobro. They've also stated that they have more resources, funding, and intend to take Neopets 'into a new era'.
So far, 'into a new era' has meant a restoration of many flash games and features (not all; it'll be a long while before everything is converted, but for most players only a few dailies are inaccessible and the site is still 95% functional), updating the home page and other areas of the site with a new mobile-friendly look (I'm kinda ambivalent about this but I get why they're doing it... and I have to admit I like the new themes), implementing a new plot event (I think it just ended but also looks like they aren't quite done yet, I'm excited to see what happens next) and... they apparently plan on making some kind of 3d game? Idk but for a while now they've been consistently updating and fixing and adding things people have wanted for a long time and seem to actually be listening to the community. They've been doing Q and A's on their official youtube channel, too.
I won't lie to you, though, the site IS still buggy. Always has been. I wouldn't say any bugs I've run into have hindered my experience overall, but they're there. But I might just be more forgiving of bugs than most as a fnv player lol. You *probably* won't really run into any yourself though, right now the only current bugs I can think of are the Wishing Well not updating and a couple minor bugs with the new plot event (tbf plot events are a live thing and they usually have a bug or two, this isn't new).
One last thing; going back to it for the first time in a long time will probably be jarring no matter what. Most of the site still has that classic oldish web look to it, while stuff like the front page and your inventory is in a totally different style. All I can say is you'll get used to it, but it does feel weird at first. Other than that, I can't really imagine a new account running into anything that would deter them from playing. Most of Neopets is the same as it's always been, for better or worse, and what isn't the same has mostly been a welcome change.
If you DO make a new account hmu btw I'll give you some free stuff and neopoints to start out with, I love helping newbies and returning players :3 Also lemme know if you have any other specific questions, I love talking about neopets sm

"Stupid Dad and his stupid dojo..." Ace mumbled under his breath, looking at his feet as he walked who knew where.
He'd been walking for a good while already but didn't know how long exactly. He just kept going until the hills, where his house was located, were lost behind the city's skyscrapers. The noises of flying cars and busy streets soon took over and he found himself not far from Acme University, where he had been studying for the past three years to obtain a Martial Arts coaching degree – which, of course, had been forced onto him by his paternal.
His mind was still wrapped around his argument with his father. Why couldn't he understand that military life was his calling? Not like he hated martial arts, he found it to be of good use if somebody tried to mess with him. But being forced into it just for the sake of "legacy" was extremely annoying – if not oppressive. No matter what he said, Nao would never allow him to decide for himself. What kind of parent does that? And he was twenty-one, for goodness' sake! He shouldn't even have to obey his father's wishes!
Still lost in his thoughts, he didn't even see the tall, black limousine parking beside the sidewalk and the young lady getting out of it. Before he could even register her presence, they both bumped into each other. Ace felt the pain in his jaw and cursed between his teeth, putting his hand on his furry white cheek. He lifted his eyes toward the other person – a rabbit, just like him, with cream-colored fur and green eyes, wearing what he guessed was a cheerleading uniform. She was holding her head with a hand, most certainly where he accidentally hit her.
They both looked at the others, and right at the same time, they sputtered:
"I'm sorry!"
"No wait, I'm sorry," Ace objected, "I wasn't watching where I was going! Are you hurt?"
"I-I'm fine," the girl replied, still holding her head. "Just a bit stunned, that's all. What about you? I'm sorry, I didn't see you there!"
"Oh, nothing bad, don't worry!" he reassured her with a friendly smile, suddenly forgetting his anger from only a few seconds before. "I guess we both need to be more careful with our surroundings, right?"
The other rabbit nodded with an amused smile and, oh, welp, she was cute, Ace thought. She was around his age and could be attending Acme University too. But he never saw her before, so maybe she was on another course. There were more of them there than fingers on both hands after all.
Suddenly, the girl seemed to remember something as her expression changed for a concerned look.
"Oops, sorry, I have to go!" she excused herself, taking off toward a building a few feet from them. "And sorry again!"
She disappeared behind the doors of a multi-sports facility, leaving Ace alone where he stood while the limousine next to him finally left. Apparently, she was also rich.
He sighed; he was a bit disappointed he didn't get the chance to talk a bit more with her. At least that would have helped him ease his mind. Well, maybe he'd run into her again in the future, who knew?
Deciding he needed something to keep himself busy, preferring not going home yet, at least not until lunch, he thought about his options. Many of his classmates had already gone home to other states to see their families, leaving him on his own. He remembered there was a science forum at Acme University, but science wasn't his thing and it was mostly for future students who chose scientific courses. With a sigh, Ace finally opted to go to the beach. He didn't attend to swim – he had no swimsuit with him anyway – but rather found a quiet place to think.
The rabbit then walked until he saw a subway entrance and took off toward the west of Acmetropolis. Thankfully, he had his credit card on him to pay for a ticket. But while he was waiting, he could hear a familiar song play across the subway. It was an old song that he used to listen to a long time ago. The artist who performed that song had mysteriously disappeared during a series of events. He continued to go inside the train.
•••
The beach wasn't entirely quiet – it was right next to some restaurants and much smaller buildings than the skyscrapers in the middle of Acmetropolis. But for now, the place was mostly calm, with only the sound of the waves to break the silence. Ace didn't take his shoes off and simply walked on the almost white sand. He stopped only a few meters from where the waves gently crashed on the beach and lifted his brown gaze toward the horizon. He took a deep breath, feeling a small breeze caress his fur.
So, what now? He couldn't convince his father to let him live his dreams. Serving his country really mattered for him, but as long as he lived with his father, Nao would always come in the way.
Maybe... maybe he needed to move out. Find another place to live, far from his paternal so he would finally be left alone. He would have to find a job in another city to rent a small flat for himself, and once he saved enough money, he would be able to register in the army. That sounded like a good plan. Now he just needed to break the news to his father. Another day, of course; he had his fair share of arguments today.
As he was walking down the sand, he heard someone singing faintly in the air. He soon comes across an armadillo lizard playing on an electric guitar. The music is good to say the least. His voice was a bit scratchy, but the lyrics matched perfectly with the tempo. The busker finishes the song they were playing. He looks around, seeing that there is no one listening. Ace decides to tip him a few dollars. The busker takes notice of Ace's donation. "Thanks man!" He says in satisfaction.
"Sure, anytime." He says showing some slight stress. The lizard also takes notice of this. "Hey, why the blues?"
"Oh, uh. It's nothing really." Ace answers to him. "Just having a bad day, that's all."
"Really?" He says while tuning his guitar. "Well if it could cheer you up, got a song request?"
He was a bit surprised to hear this. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I am!" He answers, cheerfully. "Besides, I can play any song of any genre. Name it, and I'll play it. Your call."
He thinks of a song they can play. Then, a song comes up in his mind. "Can you play 'Faded Paradise' by Discorded?"
When the busker heard this, he was taken aback. "Uh..." He starts to look around in random places. "Are you sure you can't choose something else?"
Ace was confused by this statement. "But didn't you just say that you can play any song?"
"Sorry, any song BUT electronic." He says. "If you want, I can play anything else. I can play pop, folk, country, blues, R&B, jazz, rock, classical, classic rock..." He started to see Ace's disapproval of this. "You really want me to play this, don't you?"
"Just this one time?" He asked politely.
The busker sighs loudly. "Fine. But just this one time." He then started to play the song Ace requested. The performance of the song was beyond words. It was calm and peaceful, and it was as if his worries had faded away. He could only listen in awe at the way he was playing. The busker finally finishes the song. "So, how was it?"
"That was awesome!" Ace excitingly says. "You were able to sound like Discorded himself! It was perfect! Almost too perfect..." The song he played sounded familiar to the one he heard on the subway. He then started to put the two and two together. "Wait a minute..."
"Oh no." The busker says worryingly.
"You're Discorded!" He shouted. A few people started to stare at the two.
"Shhh! Not too loud!" Discorded whispered at him. The people ignored them and walked away.
"Fine, you caught me." He said, defeated. "I am Discorded. I mean, I was Discorded. But please just call me Koale."
"So this is where you've been for the past few years!" Ace says with excitement. "What happened to you?"
"Hum... Well... Uhhh... " Koala started to fiddle with his guitar pick. "Alright, I'll tell you. Just sit down with me for a bit, okay?"
Ace decides to sit next to him as Koale tells his story.
"I started to play music when I was around 14 years old." He said as he fiddled with his guitar pick. "For some reason though, no matter what I create, it becomes a total hit. Soon, some music producers found out about my talent and asked me for a partnership. I got a bit too cocky and said yes."
"What happened then?" Ace asked him.
"Let's just say I fell down hard. Very hard," He continued. "It turned out that I wasn't really making as much money as I thought. And I was a fool back then. I started to spend my money on almost everything. Clothes, shoes, and music gear; I wasn't keeping track of my savings. Eventually, they decided to cut my partnership with them and do it with some other dude."
Koale took a moment to inhale his vape pen, then blew out a big puff of vapor. "After that, everything went downhill for me. I lost my career, my so-called friends left me, and I basically shamed myself. I just couldn't handle the pressure I was under. So I left my hometown and drove to anywhere I could go. During my travels, however, I heard that Acmetropolis was going to be holding a music competition with a big prize at the end. So yeah, that's why I'm here."
He then looks up at the clear blue sky. "But I'm super nervous right now. What if I fail again just like I did last time? I don't want to go through that again."
"I think I can feel the same way." Ace finally talks to him. Koale looks at him with curiosity. "Oh?"
Ace continues with his problems. "I've been getting into fights with my dad recently. For some reason, he doesn't approve of the ideas I have. I want to go into the military and help others, but he wants me to inherit our family legacy when he becomes old. But I'm twenty-one for crying out loud! I already have dreams of my own! I don't want to be trapped inside the dojo for the rest of my life!"
"So, a 'dream being held down' type of problem?" Koale replies.
"I guess you can say that." He answers.
Koale takes another puff from his pen. "I don't think he's wrong. Being in the military is a hard thing to do. He probably just wants to keep you safe."
"C'mon, my father raised me in martial arts." Ace interrupts Koale. "I think I'll be fine."
"Fine, show me some of your moves."
Ace starts to show him some of the moves he was taught over the years. There were a few punches here and there, but one of the moves that really got his attention was when he jumped and did a roundhouse kick. After that, Koale was left speechless.
"Whoa..." He said in awe. "Okay. I think you'll be fine."
Ace wipes some of the sweat on his fur. "I'm glad I got some of that out of my system, but I need to go now. Thanks for helping me talk about my issues."
"No problem," Koale says. "But I think you should patch things up with your father. Try to see if things can work out. Take it easy."
Ace waves at him. "Later." He continues to walk on the sand.

DSTLRY: A Comic Imprint From Ex-ComiXology Management, With Some Great Talent and New Ideas About Digital Comics
Tumblr media
The Beat:
DSTLRY is here.
Since Comixology was folded into Amazon last year, and founder David Steinberger left the company, many have seen him and former Comixology executive Chip Mosher hanging out together quite a bit. Many surmised they were working on a new thing and today we learned what that new thing is: DSTLRY, a new comics publisher that brings together an innovative relationship with creators, and a “StubHub-Style Resellable Digital Marketplace.”
Announced today with a pretty glowing piece in The New York Times, the best breakdown of what and who DSTLRY is comes from The Beat, which is why I’m sourcing — and will be quoting — their article here.
On paper, DSTLRY is saying all of the right things, for example:
Each “Founding Creator” will hold an equity stake in the company, and an additional 3% of DSTLRY’s company equity will be distributed among all creators who release projects during the first three years of DSTLRY’s publishing slate, with money allocated based on title performance.
And the lineup of creators and talent is hard to ignore, e.g.:
The line-up of Founding Creators is loaded: Scott Snyder (Batman, Wytches), Tula Lotay (Barnstormers), James Tynion IV (Something Is Killing the Children, The Joker War), Junko Mizuno (Pure Trance, Ravina the Witch?), Ram V (Detective Comics, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr), Mirka Andolfo (Sweet Paprika, Mercy), Joëlle Jones (Lady Killer, Catwoman), Jock (Batman: One Dark Knight, Wytches), Becky Cloonan (Wonder Woman, Batgirls), Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Joker), Elsa Charretier (Love Everlasting, November), Stephanie Phillips (Grim, Harley Quinn), Lee Garbett (Spider-Man, Skyward), Marc Bernardin (Adora and the Distance, Star Trek: Picard), Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine, Captain Carter), and Founding Editor Will Dennis (Y: The Last Man, Snow Angels).
But it’s their business plan that has me scratching my head.
Unlike Comixology, DSTLRY will launch with oversized 48-page issues in both print and digital, distributed to comics shops in the usual way. Collected editions will be widely available in print and digital.
That much is like a traditional publisher. But DSTLRY is adding what they bill as “a Stub Hub for digital comics.” Digital drops of individual issues will come with various benefits – special discounts, exclusive drops, and meetups with the creators – and while they are NOT NFTs they will be fully ownable and resellable. Owners will be able to resell their items on the DSTLRY marketplace. Although they can set their own price, a percentage of resale goes back to the creators. Physical issues will be limited-edition collectibles in the traditional sense.
So I’m glad that…
This isn’t NFT-based. 2. Collected editions will be wildely avialable in digital
As a trade-waiter with a massive collection on ComiXology, I feel like this is somewhat being catered to me, even though I’m pretty sure their books won’t be available on Amazon. (Maybe I’m wrong?) This marketplace idea, overall, sounds massively misguided and as if it’s trying to capture a part of the audience that just isn’t there. The idea behind selling digital content is the lack of overhead, the lack of rush, the ease of accessibility. Sure, you can’t “lend” in many traditional senses, or re-sell, but…that’s the compremise made.
This feels like a fools errand that, if the company gets acquired or goes belly up, you’re out the whole shebang.
I appreciate the effort to cut in the creators on the resale, but is that a massive concern? Please, creators, I know I know some of you, and you might be reading this…what does that mean to you? Is it a given of extra funding, or is it sort of a “nice if I get it, but I don’t expect it” scenario?
At the end of the day, like with any new comic company, the core business will rest on if the books are good. We can debate the rest. But right now? I’ve got a very raised eyebrow at their plans. Wish them the best just the same.

We would like to invite you to visit our new website. Poemusart.com is a first of its kind platform where poems, music and art can digitally combine to create a new medium we call a Poemusart. Creators can mashup with others music, art and poems, written or spoken in their own unique style, on various topics, from current affairs to comedy, from short stories to inspirational messages. All translatable into 21 spoken languages at the click of a button and sold as NFTs. gofund.me/4d73e940
Most people would not usually read a poem, or scroll through art, but when poems, music and art are combined, this new combination becomes a lot more entertaining. Creators on poemusart.com can speak or write their poems in their own unique style, on various topics, from current affairs to comedy, from short stories to inspirational messages. All translatable into 21 spoken languages at the click of a button. Users of poemusart.com are categorized as viewers, creators and advertisers.
Viewers can stream the algorithm-curated Poemusarts as entertainment and discuss it in the comments section. And advertisers display their brands on the website. Advertisers and users are also able to commission Creators to create content for them in exchange for tokens. Viewers can also purchase a subscription. Subscription benefits include: creation of a playlist; skipping advertisements; use of the Text to Poem A.I and use of the Text to Art A.I. On poemusart.com "NFT" (non-fungible token) means that we endeavor to make sure that each poem, music and art uploaded is not a duplicate of one that already exists on the site. It is not a blockchain. It is very easy to use for all.
We also make sure that each combination of poem, music and art that constitutes a Poemusart is a one of a kind combination. The primary purpose of the site is entertainment, similar to video streaming sites like TikTok.com. A Poemusart is like a video in that when played, the viewer sees a moving digital art and hears a spoken poem with music playing in the background. Creators/composers that contribute to the site are able to monetize their Poemusarts through receiving gifts in the form of tokens or through ownership transfer in exchange for tokens. The tokens on poemusart.com are similar to the tokens on Tiktok.com or the Coins on Reddit.com, they are not crypto currency and only serve to lubricate gifts and exchanges on the site. Ownership transfer of a Poemusart is not the same as transactions on NFT platforms. Poemusarts cannot be downloaded off the site so there is no risk of your collection being stolen from the site.
Also on other social media sites like TikTok.com there are many duplicates of the same videos or concept. Users copy each other's content because they seek the benefits from having that particular video on their page. On poemusart.com, since we take strides to ensure that each Poemusart cannot be duplicated, the only way users can acquire other coveted Poemusarts is to do so by ownership transfer in exchange for tokens. Benefits of ownership include increased traffic to owner's collection, more attention, more discussions, more donations, and possible ad revenue sharing.
Like the text-to-poem and text-to-art A.I. function, the text-to-music A.I. function will allow users to simply type in certain keywords such as genre, styles, tempos and moods into the text box and the A.I. will generate a piece of music from that prompt.
It is our sincere hope that you will enjoy what we have created and also become a contributor. Your feedback is much appreciated too.
Thank you in advance,
Raymond
